Welcome to the Tacoma Astronomical Society

Welcome to TAS-Online.org, the internet presence of the Tacoma Astronomical Society.

This website serves both the general membership of the society and provides a resource for all visitors interested in astronomy, and in the services the Tacoma Astronomical Society provides the community.

The Tacoma Astronomical Society holds various meetings in and around Tacoma. Our main meeting is the monthly General Meeting for our members where we provide an advanced presentation in astronomy, an opportunity for members to share astronomy and telescope related information, and conduct society business. We welcome guests at our General Meetings and invite them to consider the benefits of becoming a member. We also hold two public Star Parties a month at Pierce College where we provide one of our popular presentations on astronomy and, weather permitting, invite the public to join us on the Observing Hill to enjoy the night sky through our many telescopes.

Once a year, in August, we hold our annual Astronomy Fair where we host a variety of presentations, workshops, games and other activities for the entire day culminating in our largest star party into the early morning hours of the following day.

The Tacoma Astronomical Society is also committed to bringing the education of astronomy to the community. Our Outreach Program has had an extremely successful year in 2005 bringing star parties, solar viewing, presentations and stomp rocket competitions to schools, libraries and other community groups throughout the region.

We also have a very active Student Group that meets regularly throughout the month to provide classes and games centered around the teaching of astronomy and physics. The Student Group also provides field trips for it's students and conducts an annual Messier Marathon. The Tacoma Astronomical Society also provides a scholarship award to graduating students entering college.

The core membership of the Tacoma Astronomical Society consists of individuals knowledgeable in the fields of telescope making, astronomy and physics. Our membership is our greatest asset and each member who contributes to the society benefits the general membership and the community as a whole by their sharing their expertise and passion for astronomy.

You can find out more about the Tacoma Astronomical Society here at TAS-Online.org; it's meetings and events, how to become a member and using it's resources.
